The Children's Home of Virginia Baptists (CHVB), was established in 1947 to meet the service needs of those not served and the underserved African American children. The facility came into existence as the result of the vision of a concerned physician and his wife, Dr. and Mrs. Charles S. Dodd.
The Dodd's were assisted in making their vision a reality through the assistance of Mr. James Ritchey, members of the Baptist Church Bodies, and concerned citizens. The founders' goal was to establish not only a residential care facility for orphans, but a facility that would respond to the total developmental needs of children and their families. The goal of the Founders was to help the children to become law abiding, productive citizens.
Today, CHVB is striving to preserve the vision by continuing to offer programs that strengthen youth and African American families, while assessing future needs. During the COV-19 pandemic, CHVB is is working to update and enhance the grounds and buildings to provide a safe and inviting environment for children and families post-pandemic.
The Chosen 1 Generation sports program continues to provide safe onsite activities for youth and children during COVID-19. Read more information about that program and click on the link to access additional details about this dynamic program.
